Frasier' Star John Mahoney Dead at 77


Award-winning actor John Mahoney has passed away at the age of 77, according to reports.
TMZ broke the news that the actor, famous for playing the title character’s dad on Frasier, died on February 4, 2018. He reportedly passed away while in hospice care in Chicago. A cause of death has not yet been released.
John played Martin Crane, the dad of Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce’s characters, for 11 seasons.
According to the Washington Times, the actor won a SAG Award for the role. He was also nominated for two Emmys and two Golden Globes for the role of Martin over the course of his tenure.
Prior to his time as one of TV’s most beloved dads, John began his career as a stage actor, according to the New York Daily News.
The English-born actor won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his role in The House of Blue Leaves by playwright John Guare. Following the end of Frasier in 2004, John returned to his roots on stage in a revival of Prelude to a Kiss on Broadway.
John also had supporting roles in many major movies, including Tin Men, Moonstruck, Eight Men Out, Barton Fink, and Say Anything. He appeared more recently in a recurring capacity on several episode of TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland.
