Burning of the Walton wharf
A Walton man has pleaded guilty to mischief in connection with the burning of the Walton wharf.
justin shrum, who was originally charged with arson along with Kelsey Moore, of Hantsport, in September 2012, pleaded guilty to the lesser offenseof mischief in Windsor provincial court April 29.
Shrum was 29 when the charges were laid and Moore, who was due in Windsor provincial court April 30, was 28.
Shrum is due back in Windsor provincial court July 8 for sentencing.
The Walton wharf, long-considered a historic feature of the small rural community, burned to the ground Aug. 9, 2012, sparking much public outcry.Many community members turned to a Facebook page called “The Walton Wharf and What It Once Was” to share their fond memories of the wharf and encourage citizens with information about the alleged arson to contact the RCMP.
