For reference, the company owned by PepsiCo Canada ULC is recalling
the flavour Chocolate Nut Medley (175 g) with product code 0 55577
11021 8 and a best before date of Oct. 16, 2016; and the flavour Yogurt,
Fruit & Nut (175 g) with product code 0 55577 11020 1, and a best
before date of Oct. 16, 2016.
The products have been sold in Ontario.
The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) stated in a news release
that if you think you became sick from eating a recalled product, call
your doctor.
Check to see if you have the recalled products in your home. If you
do, throw them out or return the package to the store where they were
purchased.
Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look or smell
spoiled, but can still make you sick, CFIA said. Symptoms can include
vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and
neck stiffness.
Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems
are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may
experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to
premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In
severe cases of illness, people may die.
Quaker Canada triggered the recall itself. The CFIA is conducting a
food safety investigation, the agency said, which may lead to the
recall of other products.
The CFIA is also verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
Despite the recall, no illnesses have been reported associated with the consumption of these products.
