 This study was done in primates, half were given the whooping cough/pertussis vaccine, and the other half wasn’t. They both were exposed to whooping cough. The unvaccinated primates got the whooping cough, the vaccinated primates held the whooping cough in their lungs longer. They had suppressed symptoms and passed the whooping cough on to other primates.
