SYDNEY — A Cape Breton RCMP officer has been charged with uttering a
threat after an investigation by the province’s Serious Incident
Response Team.
Staff Sgt. Nelson Salter, 52, of Stoneybrook Lane, Sydney River, is
alleged to have uttered a threat to cause death or bodily harm on July 3
in Sydney River.
He is now scheduled to enter a plea on the charge Sept. 17.
The RCMP-Northeast Nova District was contacted by a female claiming
she had been assaulted and threatened by her husband, a member of the
RCMP.
The RCMP referred the matter to SiRT as it is responsible to
investigate all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia,
whether or not there is an allegation of wrongdoing. The agency will
also investigate complaints against police by members of the public.
The agency formally filed a charge against Nelson this week in provincial court in Sydney.
