RCMP Investigating After Video Shows Mountie Entering House With Axe
The RCMP in Saskatchewan is reviewing the behaviour of an officer captured on video yelling, swearing and carrying an axe into a home where a man inside had self-harmed. Jonas Hardlotte lives in Stanley Mission, about 450 kilometres north of Saskatoon, and posted the one-minute video to Facebook. The 33-year-old Cree man said he was experiencing depression and was speaking to his mother-in-law, who called the local clinic to check on him. RCMP spokesman Cpl. Rob King said in a statement that police received a request for help from the clinic just before noon Tuesday after staff received a 911 call about a man who had injured himself. King said an officer and two nurses arrived at a home and the officer could see through a window that a man was bleeding, so the Mountie attempted to get inside. Hardlotte said the officer acted rudely and he felt intimidated, so no one inside opened the door and instead used his phone to start recording. “I thought I did something wrong,” he said of the officer’s behaviour. “I told him, ‘I’ll wait for the clinic. … You obviously see I’m good. You checked up on me.’” In the video posted to Facebook, an officer using profanities can be heard telling Hardlotte’s cousin, who is standing by a window, to open the door. It appears that the officer hits the window hard three times with his fist and yells: “Open the door now.” “The (expletive) clinic is here to check on you. Open the door or I’m coming back with a sledgehammer,” the officer is heard saying. The officer can be seen returning and walking through it with an axe in hand. “You think I was kidding,” he said before entering the home, followed by two nurses. King said RCMP are aware the officer took away Hardlotte’s cellphone and stopped the recording. “He had no right to do that,” Hardlotte said. The social media footage was brought to the attention of the police Tuesday afternoon, said King, and the RCMP is doing a full review of what happened. The officer involved has been reassigned, he said. “Transparency and accountability are critical in our role as the provincial police service,” King said in the statement. “The Saskatchewan RCMP extends sincere appreciation to the members of the public for bringing this video to our attention.

Fifteen of those children had been trafficked for sex, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported, citing authorities. Officials say they also cleared 26 arrest warrants and filed additional charges for alleged crimes related to sex trafficking, parental kidnapping, registered sex offender violations, drugs and weapons possession, and custodial interference. In addition to the US Marshals Service Missing Child Unit, the agency’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Georgia state and local agencies were involved in the bust, officials said. The children were considered among the most at-risk and challenging recovery cases in the area — due to indications of child sex trafficking and other high-risk factors including child exploitation, sexual abuse, physical abuse, and medical or mental health conditions, authorities said.

Could injectable microrobots one day run in your veins?
Scientists have created an army of microscopic four-legged robots too small to see with the naked eye that walk when stimulated by a laser and could be injected into the body through hypodermic needles, a study said Wednesday.
Microscopic robotics are seen as having an array of potential uses, particularly in medicine, and US researchers said the new robots offer "the potential to explore biological environments".
One of the main challenges in the development of these cell-sized robots has been combining control circuitry and moving parts in such a small structure.
The robots described in the journal Nature are less than 0.1 millimetre wide -- around the width of a human hair -- and have four legs that are powered by on-board solar cells.
By shooting laser light into these solar cells, researchers were able to trigger the legs to move, causing the robot to walk around.
The study's co-author Marc Miskin, of the University of Pennsylvania, told AFP that a key innovation of the research was that the legs -- its actuators -- could be controlled using silicon electronics.
"Fifty years of shrinking down electronics has led to some remarkably tiny technologies: you can build sensors, computers, memory, all in very small spaces," he said. "But, if you want a robot, you need actuators, parts that move."
- 'Figuring out what's possible' -
The researchers acknowledged that their creations are currently slower than other microbots that "swim", less easy to control than those guided by magnets, and do not sense their environment.
The robots are prototypes that demonstrate the possibility of integrating electronics with the parts that help the device move around, Miskin said, adding they expect the technology to develop quickly.
"The next step is to build sophisticated circuitry: can we build robots that sense their environment and respond? How about tiny programmable machines? Can we make them able to run without human intervention?"
Miskin said he envisions biomedical uses for the robots, or applications in materials science, such as repairing materials at the microscale.
"But this is a very new idea and we're still trying to figure out what's possible," he added.
- 'Swallow the surgeon' -
Researchers said that they were able to produce the components for the robots in parallel, meaning they could make more than one million of them in each four-inch wafer of silicon.
The legs were made from nanometre-thick platinum that bends when stimulated by laser light, creating the walking motion.
Their average speed was about one body length per minute, the study said, adding this was "comparable to crawling biological microorganisms".
The robots can survive highly acidic environments and temperature variations of more than 200 degrees Kelvin (-73 degrees Celsius), the study said.
In a commentary also published in Nature, Allan Brooks and Michael Strano of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said the concept of robots small enough to travel through blood vessels had been around since Nobel laureate Richard Feynman talked about the potential to "swallow the surgeon" in 1959.
They said the new study provides "a clear vision" for solving the challenge of creating a tiny robot that can both convert energy into motion and is able to be programmable.
"The authors' robots, although not autonomous in
their current form, can be seen as a platform to which 'brains' and a
battery can be attached," they said, predicting the "hurdle of
developing autonomous programmability for microrobots will soon be

Glyphosate herbicide harms even GM glyphosate-tolerant soybeans
Scientists have found
that spraying with glyphosate-based herbicide triggers unintended
effects even in genetically modified soybean varieties resistant to this
type of pesticide. They report their findings in a new study published
in Environmental Sciences Europe.
The researchers, from
GenØk–Centre for Biosafety in Norway and the Federal University of Santa
Catarina (UFSC) in Brazil, found severe metabolic disturbances in both
stacked (multiple transgene) and single transgene trait GM soybeans
caused by exposure to a glyphosate-based herbicide.
Study: Unvaccinated Children Have Better Health Than Their Vaccinated Peers
-- A new peer-reviewed study in the journal SAGE Open Medicine detailing the health outcomes of vaccinated versus unvaccinated children concludes that unvaccinated children have better health outcomes than their vaccinated peers within the conditions examined and suggests that further study is necessary to understand the full spectrum of health effects associated with vaccination.
The study was based on medical records of over 2000 children born between November 2005 and June 2015. The study followed children continuously for a minimum of 3 years from birth. Vaccination status was determined based on any vaccination received prior to one year of age which yielded 30.9% of the children in the unvaccinated group. Results show that vaccination before one year of age led to significantly increased odds of medical diagnoses of developmental delays, asthma and ear infections in children.
In a separate analysis, children receiving more vaccines by one year of age were more likely to be diagnosed with gastrointestinal disorders compared to those who received no vaccines within the same timeframe. In temporal analyses, children vaccinated prior to six months of age showed significant risks of each of the disorders studied as compared to unvaccinated children.
The study, coauthored by Dr. Brian Hooker and Mr. Neil Miller, is unique in that all diagnoses were verified using abstracted medical records from each of the participating pediatric practices. Lead author of the study, Dr. Hooker, stated, "The results definitely indicate better health outcomes among the conditions studied in children who did not receive vaccines within their first year of life. These findings are consistent with additional research that has identified vaccination as a risk factor for a variety of adverse health outcomes. Such findings merit additional large-scale study of vaccinated and unvaccinated children in order to provide optimal health as well as protection against infectious diseases."
Children's Health Defense (CHD) has assembled nearly 60 studies that find vaccinated cohorts to be far sicker than their unvaccinated peers. CHD is a non-profit organization dedicated to ending the recent epidemic of chronic health conditions affecting 54% of children and recognizes many harmful environmental exposures contributing to an overall decline in children's health.

British govt removes 1.3 MILLION Covid-19 tests from official England figures due to alleged ‘double counting’
In a coronavirus update issued on Wednesday, the UK government not only lowered the "tests made available" figure but discontinued the metric altogether, adding further confusion to an already questionable testing system. It marks the latest in a long line of high profile and embarrassing gaffes throughout the country’s coronavirus response.
“An adjustment of -1,308,071 has been made to the historic data for the ‘tests made available’ metric," the report reads, highlighting instances of "double-counting" of test kits issued between May 14 and August 12.
The
problem was first acknowledged on July 6 but the incorrect data was
only removed on August 12 and comes in parallel to recent downward

At least 13 people were killed when a hoard of revelers tried to flee during the police raid of a Lima, Peru, nightclub that was open despite coronavirus restrictions, officials said.
The victims were crushed to death or asphyxiated when around 120 people tried to escape the Thomas Restobar club Saturday night through the only entrance door, national police and government officials said.
There were also at least six people injured, including three officers, as clubgoers became trapped between the door and a staircase leading to the street.
“In these circumstances when people begin to fight to get out, it’s tumultuous, everyone goes against each other,” Orlando Velasco of the National Police told local radio station RPP.

RFK Jr. Sues Facebook, Zuckerberg and ‘Fact-Checkers’ for Vaccine Censorship
On Monday, August 17, 2020, Children’s Health Defense filed a lawsuit against Facebook, Inc. in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California. The lawsuit alleges that Facebook acted jointly or in concert with federal government agencies or actors to deny Children’s Health Defense’s First Amendment speech and Fifth Amendment property rights. At issue in the case is Facebook’s use of fact-checking warning labels and Facebook’s disabling of the fundraising feature on Children’s Health Defense’s Facebook page. Children’s Health Defense is an anti-vaccination group founded by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. The group bills itself as “a public health advocate for complete candor as to both the risks of environmental toxins, vaccines, 5G and wireless networks, and the conflicts of interest in government oversight of those products and services.” The group’s Facebook page has approximately 122,830 followers. From January 2019 to May 2019, the Facebook page in question generated $41,241 in user donations. The facts around the lawsuit center around Congressman Adam Schiff’s threat to “introduce legislation to remove Facebook’s immunity under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act” unless Facebook acted to “‘distinguish’ and suppress ‘vaccine misinformation’ and advertising.” The lawsuit alleges that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention collaborated with Facebook to “suppress vaccine safety speech with a ‘warning label’ and other notices that appear to flag disinformation.” Since September 2019, Facebook has applied a warning label to Children’s Health Defense’s Facebook page. This warning label states that “this page posts about vaccines” and links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s website. On May 2, 2019, Facebook deactivated the fundraising feature on the group’s Facebook page for violating Facebook’s fundraising terms and conditions. Further, Facebook blocked the group’s ability to purchase online ads promoting the group. Children’s Health Defense’s first cause of action is based on Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents of Fed. Bureau of Narcotics, 403 U.S. 388 (1971), implied under 28 U.S.C. § 1331. The complaint “seeks an implied private damages remedy against private defendants who act jointly or in concert with federal government agencies or actors to deny Plaintiff’s First Amendment speech and Fifth Amendment property rights.” The complaint asks the judicial branch to “affirm a bedrock principle of liberty that governmental agencies cannot legally ‘sub-contract’ or ‘privatize’ the role of public censor to Facebook as an end-run around the Constitution.” The second cause of action is centered on a false promotion claim of the Lanham Act, 15 U.S.C. § 1225(a)(1)(B). The complaint alleges that Facebook “made, authored, and published the warning label. . . in order to deter Plaintiff’s followers and other consumers from listening to, trusting, and relying on Plaintiff’s content, and donating or contributing to Plaintiff.” Further, by pointing users to the government website, Facebook “intended to persuade consumers instead to follow the CDC’s recommendations to get the vaccines produced by its major advertisers. . . who buy $1 billion per annum in advertisements from Facebook.” The third cause of action alleges wire fraud violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, 18 U.S.C. § 1962(c). The complaint alleges that Facebook, Facebook’s fact-checkers, and Facebook’s content management team “function as a continuing unit for a common purpose – to damage Plaintiff’s trade and property interests, to divert users of their page to the CDC, and to unjustly enrich themselves – by fraudulent means.” The fourth and final cause of action is brought under the Declaratory Judgment Act, 28 U.S.C. § 2201(a). The complaint states such a judicial declaration is necessary so that Children’s Health Defense “may ascertain its rights to publish content on those pages without any interference, censorship, warning labels, ‘shadowbanning,’ ‘deboosting,’ ‘sandboxing,’ or other deceptive means and methods.” The complaint requests $5 million or more in treble and punitive damages against Facebook, along with an injunction and declaratory judgment ordering Facebook to remove the warning labels.

Bayer agrees to pay $1.6B to settle U.S. birth control suits
Bayer said Thursday it has agreed to pay $1.6 billion to settle about 90% of the 39,000 legal claims in the U.S. over injuries women said were related to their use of the German pharmaceuticals company's Essure birth control device.
The settlements include all of the jurisdictions with significant volumes of Essure cases, including the state of California Joint Council Coordinated Proceedings and Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. It also includes an allowance for outstanding claims.
"With the settlements, Bayer resolves virtually all of the U.S. Essure litigation so that the company can focus on its commitment to women’s health, where it has long been a leader, without the distractions and uncertainties associated with this litigation," the company said in announcing the settlement. “There is no admission of wrongdoing or liability by Bayer in the settlement agreements."
Bayer said in 2018 that it would end sales of the birth control product in the U.S., citing declining sales of the implantable device and not based on safety concerns.
The U.S. settlements have no impact on pending litigation in other countries.
The agreement follows a $10.9 billion settlement in June of U.S. lawsuits claiming the company’s weedkiller Roundup caused cancer.
Bayer bought St. Louis-based Monsanto Co., the maker of Roundup, for $63 billion in 2018.
Earlier this month, Bayer reported a net loss of $11.23 billion in the second quarter due to charges for Roundup and other legal settlements. The charges result mainly from the $10.9 billion Roundup settlement, but also settlements on dicamba, another weed killer, and on waste water contaminated with PCB. Source
