The analysis, published in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicines looked at 104 employees at a Boston store in May.
20% had positive nasal swab tests. Of those three out of four were asymptomatic.
Researcher say they were surprised by these results.
It means these workers were a “significant transmission source” without even knowing it.
The exposure occurred even with precautions.
91% say they wore a face mask at work, but only 66% said they were able to social distance consistently on the job.
The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union says more than 16,300 grocery workers have been infected or exposed to COVID-19 since the pandemic started.
