‘Incredibly emotional’: Family celebrates grandmother’s release from care home after lengthy battle

A mother and daughter have won a lengthy battle to have the family’s 97-year-old grandmother released from her care home. Ylenia Angeli, 73, was arrested last month for attempting to take her mother Tina Thornborough out of Northgate House home in Market Weighton, East Yorkshire. Speaking with talkRADIO’s Julia Hartley-Brewer, Leandra Ashton, Ms Angeli’s daughter and Ms Thornborough’s granddaughter, said the family’s struggle showed a “national emergency” in UK care homes over the coronavirus pandemic. “How [preventing family visits] can be deemed in any way protecting or saving lives, it just shows the level of political spin that is currently out there.” She added that having her grandmother back in the family home was “incredibly emotional” and “such a relief”.
