The government is paying hospitals a 20% bonus for each dose of Remdesivir given. A drug that's already generating about $3k-5k per treatment course. I can't find confirmation of exactly what the hospital makes off this particular drug, but my research indicates on average, hospitals keep about 50% of the cost of the drugs they prescribe.
It's one big circle jerk. The industry funds the politicians, the politicians pave the way with laws and loopholes to generate more profit for the industry.
"It is another unfortunate example of drug manufacturers taking advantage of their monopolies to set prices at whatever level they want. It’s also a worrisome indicator that they will exploit the COVID pandemic to maximize their profits at the expense of patients. The bottom line is that this adds to the financial burden on employers and their employees and families, many of whom are already struggling from the impact of the COVID pandemic.".-Institute for Clinical and Economic Review
This makes it seem as if they're seperate, competitive industries. The reality is they're 2 tentacles of the same hideous beast. But there is some good information here I felt compelled to share.
