A terrible accident occurred at the Mohali fairgrounds in India this past Sunday. An attraction, which lifted people up and then made them fall by braking at the end, lost control and ended up crashing to the ground, leaving 16 injured.
According to information from the Dussehra Ground, it all happened in the middle of the carnival at around 10:00 p.m. that night. Sixteen people were injured, mostly children and women.
"We saw people falling off the swing when it went up. There were children and women sitting on it," explained a woman who witnessed the whole scene, adding that people who were at the carnival helped carry the injured to the hospital.
What happened is still under investigation: "A carnival was being organized and the eyewitness told us that there was a technical malfunction causing the swing to fall," the authorities who attended the scene told the media.
All the carnival organizers allegedly fled the scene. The Mohali trade fair, where the incident occurred, will still continue until September 11, although Mohali deputy commissioner Amit Talwar said they will conduct an investigation to see if the organizers had permission from the relevant authorities to hold the carnival.
