‘Blown away’: Canadian powerlifter suspended for speaking out against trans competitor

Canadian powerlifter April Hutchinson reacts to her two-year ban by the sport’s national sanctioning body after she spoke out against a transgender athlete. Ms Hutchinson sat down with Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan in October to discuss the biological differences between males and females and how the transgender movement is affecting women’s sports. During the interview, she pointed out the “physiological advantages” a man has when competing against women in sports. Ms Hutchinson defended her comments during a more recent interview with Mr Morgan in November, saying she thought she was being “polite” calling trans powerlifter Anne Andres a biological male. “Two-year suspension is very harsh, it’s a suspension you give someone that got caught for doping,” she told Mr Morgan. “Everyone is still shocked about it, I’m very upset, I’m very hurt by my federation.” Ms Hutchinson also revealed that she would appeal the suspension.
