Tesla, Neuralink has received approval from Health Canada to begin clinical trials in Canada. The company is now seeking volunteers for its CAN-PRIME Study, which involves surgically implanting a coin-sized N1 device into the brain. The implant, placed using a specialized R1 Robot, will record brain activity and allow participants to control a computer through a smartphone app.
The study will run for four years and is open to individuals aged 19 or older with quadriplegia caused by spinal cord injuries. Participants must also have a reliable caregiver. Neuralink previously began similar trials in the U.S., with the first implant conducted in January 2024. The patient successfully controlled a computer mouse using their mind. A second implant was performed in August.
Elon Musk has stated that Neuralink aims to treat conditions such as schizophrenia, seizures, and memory loss, while also helping patients regain limb function.
