Japan sets new internet speed record, capable of downloading the entireWikipedia in one second.
Researchers
in Japan have achieved a major milestone in data transmission: 1.02
petabits per second – equivalent to over 1 million gigabytes per second –
sent through a 1,123 miles (1,808 km) standard-diameter fibre optic
cable.
The key innovation lies in
a 19-core optical fibre, with each core functioning as an independent
data channel. Combined with an advanced amplification system operating
in both the C and L optical bands, the setup maintained high signal
integrity over long distances – a major limitation in previous
high-speed systems.
At this speed, transferring large-scale content becomes nearly instantaneous. Think:
85,000 4K movies
12,000 full-size games
