========= POINTS TO CONSIDER ==========
1. Assad has higher approval ratings than most leaders of Western "liberal democracies" and was voted for by almost 90% of the electorate (the election was observed by outside parties and deemed fair).
2. Virtually the entire Syrian Left is involved in the ruling coalition, and their policies are broadly social democratic and secular.
3. About 90% of internally displaced Syrians move *into* government controlled territory. Make of that what you will.
4. There is no convincing evidence the gov't used chemical weapons [a 2013 UN report stated the gov't had none] or deliberately starved people - highly plausible they were framed for this. It has also been documented that the rebels in East Aleppo starved the civilian population.
5. If you think the West/Nato can claim moral superiority over Syria for using barrel bombs, you must be joking.
6. It’s quite a stretch to call it a civil war: the 'rebels' (Isis & Al Qaeda) are trained and armed by foreign powers, including Britain & the US, and are more often than not foreign themselves.
7. There are no 'moderate rebels': Al Qaeda and Isis aim to destroy those who differ from them - they are not in the business of friendly alliances with those of antithetical viewpoints. And if they were, how are they 'moderate' ?
8. The White Helmets are embedded with Al Qaeda; the line separating the 2 is blurry to say the least.
9. Russia, Iran & China play a legitimate role in Syria, having been invited by the elected government.
10. Britain and the US, on the other hand, are not. And their intentions are to topple the legitimate gov't and subject Syria to the same fate as Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, that is: ruin & plunder.
11. All of the anti-Assad propaganda is simply manufacturing consent for yet ANOTHER war, and it seems like the public is largely falling for it. Just like they did with Iraq and Libya.
12. Any leader who dares oppose US global hegemony is labelled a "tyrant" and a "dictator," and we are told we must invade and "liberate" the people for their own good. We've seen this movie before.
