Massive explosion shakes Lebanon's capital, Beirut
Hundreds of people have been injured after a massive explosion shook Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Tuesday, according to the country’s health minister. Videos of the explosion show a huge blast followed by screaming and thick smoke rising over the city. Lebanon's state news agency NNA and two security sources said the blast had occurred in the port area where there are warehouses housing explosives. It was not immediately clear what caused the blast or what kind of explosives were in the warehouses. Piles of debris were seen strewn about in front of damaged buildings as thick smoke rose overhead. Lebanon's Health Minister Hamad Hasan said the explosion had caused a "very high number of injuries" and extensive damage.
