In a history-making medical achievement, surgeons at the University of Maryland Medical Center have successfully removed a rare and aggressive spinal tumor through a patient’s eye socket. The patient, 19-year-old Karla Flores, was diagnosed with a chordoma tumor entangled around her cervical spine and spinal cord. Using an innovative transorbital approach, doctors were able to access and remove the tumor without the need for more invasive procedures. This pioneering surgery offers new hope for patients with hard-to-reach tumors and marks a major leap forward in medical science.
