Studies Set to Plead Guilty to Fraud & Money Laundering
Poul Thorsen, 65, the former CDC researcher whose influential 2002 and 2003 studies were repeatedly cited to dismiss any connection between vaccines (including the MMR shot and thimerosal-containing vaccines) and autism, is finalizing a plea deal on federal wire fraud and money laundering charges.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Nathan Kitchens, Thorsen faces two counts of wire fraud and nine counts of money laundering linked to more than $1 million in CDC grant funds originally designated for autism and public health research.
